Extreme competition is certainly not a sport for weak individuals with a fragile body. If it is hard enough for you to race and marathon, it's not intense competition.
It is a sport not too many individuals take because of the dangers involved, but a team has been inspired by a dog that has made them friends along the way –and it has been like one of them!
Peak Performance is a Swedish extreme team consisting of four members, but a racer was added to the squad when the canine walked through the difficult 430-mile footrace in Ecuador while competing for the Adventure Racing World Championship.
When the team encountered a stray dog who lived in the forest, it had already passed through several miles of racing. Team captain Mikael Lindlord gave him a meatball because the dog was malnourished and weak and hungry.
They didn't understand much that they never knew they get a new friend with this little gesture.
Peak Performance kept on its trip, not knowing that the dog was following them at first. At first, it had become too fragile to continue but the tired and almost wrecked dog finally got to them when the team had made a break.
Shocked at this, the team gave him two bowls of food and decided that the dog would keep pace a little bit faster. The dog would quickly have enough energy to match its speed and started feeding well. They called him Arthur.
Once they reached the river, the officers of the race recommended Arthur leaving, but he jumped directly into the water and swam to follow his new friends in freezing water. After that, they had no heart to leave him behind ; so they scooped him up and took him on their kayak.
Arthur suffered and even if some members of the team were almost too exhausted to give up but trudged along. They didn't get the first place, but because of Arthur, they sure were the champions.
The team raised cash to take Arthur to Sweden, and adopted the dog who would become an official Peak Performance team member!
